You may have noticed that before this weekend it had been a long time since anything was posted up on our website. Don’t worry we still exist and haven’t been sleeping all this time away. Quite the contrary we have been busier than ever.
Since moving into Percy St two years ago our attendance and games offered weekly have doubled. We are now regularly open 5 days a week with a 6th day open every fortnight!
It has never been a better time to run or play games with us. Especially considering we have now incorporated ourselves as Humberside Wargames C.I.C.
Is becoming a business a bad thing?
Some people may be concerned about the idea of the club becoming a business.
“Does this mean that our money is no longer going to make the club better and instead is going to be taken by Investors?”
No it does not mean that in the slightest. We have become what is called a Community Interest Company Incorporated by Guarantee. This means we do not have investors that expect profits, instead we have Guarantors who ensure that the company has an amount of funds within it. These Guarantors have no right to profits made by the company.
In addition to the lack of money grubbing investors, as a CIC we are required to annually prove to the CIC Ombudsman we are acting for the benefit of the community. While putting together Humberside Wargames CIC we were required to provide the CIC Ombudsman with a list of activities we are committed to doing as a company. In short the club is still entirely there for the gaming communities of Hull and the surrounding area.
What are the aims of the CIC?
The aims of Humberside Wargames C.I.C. can be found publicly advertised on our Companies house page but we will also outline them below.
Activity 1
“The company will facilitate and support local communities by providing safe spaces and opportunities to participate in immersive storytelling, strategic puzzle and tactical games or activities.”
This is what we have already been doing since day one. The space is here for you to use and is and should always be safe for you to do so
Activity 2
“The company aims to help bring together our local and diverse communities, promoting social inclusion, wellbeing and combating social isolation.”
We have always believed in the benefit that the games we play provide. Through advertising our services to the local area and welcoming new players to join our games we believe that we can bring the diverse people together in a fun and understanding manner.
How can I get involved and help?
Just by attending and playing in club, paying your fees you are helping to build the community into something more.
Should you wish to go further with assisting the running of the community this is the perfect time to do so. On the 22nd February 2025 we will be having our first annual meeting were we will elect the members of the first management committee.
